A 55-year-old woman was last week rushed to the Pakera Public Hospital, Matthews Ridge, Region 1, after she reported that she was sexually molested in her bed by an intruder.
This newspaper was told that the incident occurred around 20:30 hours last Tuesday at the elderly woman’s home at Flats, Matthew’s Ridge in the North West District.
According to one of her relatives, one of her sons’ friends, sneaked into her house, beat her and had sexual intercourse with her. The relative said that the woman explained that the ordeal lasted for about 30 minutes.
The relative explained that the elderly survivor had moved to Matthew’s Ridge about a year and a half ago because she had suffered a stroke which has left her entire right-side paralyzed. The aim was for the woman to be properly cared for by her children.
She said that after the incident, the elderly woman walked over to a relative’s house on Wednesday and told them what had happened to her. They, the relative said, then took her to the Matthews Ridge Police Station where she recounted the ordeal and identified the rapist.
“They take her to the hospital but they sent her with a male police officer. She had her niece with her and they tried to explain what happen to the male officer so they could do a proper examination but they didn’t do a proper examination,” she alleged.
The relative told this newspaper that there were bruises on the elderly woman’s foot and other parts of her body. She said that her face was swollen since the intruder had cuffed her. The relative added that the elderly woman’s torn underwear and top as well as the perpetrator’s sunshades which were found in the house have been handed over to the police.
The relative said that the perpetrator, whom the woman identified, was taken into custody and released because he could not be held beyond 72 hours. The relatives added that when they checked with the police again yesterday, they were told that “they can’t say she was raped because they have no medical but they can put that she was assaulted.”
“This boy is her son friend. The two of them does normally visit she together so he know the house,” the concerned relative lamented. “She crying out for a lot of pain right now,” she continued.
The relative told Kaieteur News that the 55-year-old has become very fearful because of the recent reports of a woman who was raped and beaten to death in Matthews Ridge.
Earlier this month, the body of 32-year-old Samantha Ashby, of Pakera, North West District, was discovered in a clump of bushes at Matthew’s Ridge.
A post mortem performed yesterday by Pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh had showed that Ashby died from multiple injuries, which included a broken hip and fractured skull. Her relatives had said that they were told that Ashby was sexually assaulted.
