A well-crafted century by Jonathan Foo ensured Albion Community Centre made light work of Guytrac Upper Corentyne, hammering them by a huge 222 runs to book their place in the semifinals of Berbice Bridge Company (BBC) first division 50-Overs knockout competition in the Ancient County.
Playing in the second round on Saturday last, defending champs Albion won the toss and batted. After an opening stand of 31 in 6 overs, Narsingh Deonarine joined Surujnarine and pair added 138 for the second wicket in just 12.2 overs before Surujnarine fell for 88 (6×4 1×6).
Deonarine went for 79 (8×4) with the score on 203-3 in 36 overs. Jonathan Foo and Veerapen Permaul then upped the tempo putting on 98 in 12 overs to take the score to 301 at which point Permaul departed for 51 (6×4).
In the last two overs, Foo went into high gear smashing 42 runs to end unbeaten on 103 (6×4 4×6) guiding Albion to 343-4 off their 50 overs, David Latchaya was undefeated on 3. For Upper Corentyne, Lakeram Latchman took 2-58 from 10 overs.
When Guytrac Upper Corentyne began their chase they lost early wickets to off-spinner Veerapen Permaul and never recovered and were eventually bowled out for just 121 in 32 overs.
Devindra Budhoo was their top scorer with 28, Latchman Roopchand made 27. Bowling for Albion, Permaul took 3-18 from 10 overs, left arm spinner Gudakesh Motie 3-34 from 6.5 overs and off-spinner Sharaz Ramcharran 2-13 from 5 overs.
Albion were scheduled to clash with Port Mourant in their semifinal yesterday at Port Mourant.
