The Safe Neighbourhood Council (SNC) of Angoy’s Avenue, in collaboration with ‘B’ Division police ranks, teamed up on Thursday to honour the top three National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) performers of Angoy’s Avenue.
In the spirit of Amerindian Heritage Month, the Council and police also distributed food hampers to eight Amerindian families at the event held at the President’s Youth Choice Building, Vryman’s Erven, New Amsterdam.
The students who were recognized included, Alex Mohabir, top NGSA student of the All Saints’ Primary in New Amsterdam; Shellon Scipio and Shaniel Sulker.

Chairman of the SNC, Mr. Indranauth Persaud, stated that the police in ‘B’ Division have always partnered with the residents of the depressed community of Angoy’s Avenue.
Commander of ‘B’ Division, Mr. Brian Joseph, noted his division’s commitment to support any venture that would empower citizens and assist students with their educational pursuits, with Angoy’s Avenue being no exception. Among the priority areas that he mentioned as part of the Reform Project of the Guyana Police Force, is partnering with such communities, “to make sure those areas are safe.” Regular visits by his ranks to Angoy’s Avenue and assisting the residents there will continue, he added.
Officer in Charge of the Guyana Fire Service in ‘B’ Division, Mr. Carmichael, stated that he was elated to be a part of the initiative in Angoy’s Avenue.
“We want to ensure that the people of the SNC are happy, so we have joined with our counterparts in the Guyana Police Force to assist in donating trophies and hampers to the people of this community.”
He congratulated the recipients of the trophies as well as the families who received the hampers.

Other senior ranks within the force were in attendance, including Deputy Senior Superintendent, Marlon Chapman; Officer-in-Charge of Traffic, Assistant Superintendent, Budhnarine Persaud; Crime Chief of ‘B’ Division, Deputy Superintendent, Terrence Paul; Officer-in-Charge of Number One Sub- Division, Ass’t Supt Guy Nurse and Station Sergeant of the Central Police Station, Sgt. Michael Newland.
