…company could employ more than 500 staff
Australian gold-mining Company, Troy Resources Limited, is currently hiring qualified
persons to fill 14 job vacancies which are available for upcoming mining activities to be conducted at the Karouni project, west of Omai in Region Seven.
The company is seeking suitably qualified persons possessing the necessary skills, qualification or experience to work in the interior on a contractual or full time basis. The company is seeking, among others environmental officers, store keepers/warehousemen, heavy equipment mechanics, auto electricians, sawmill operators, plumbers/pipe fitters, air conditioner technicians, welders and occupational health and safety officers with experience in firefighting.
Exploservice Guyana Inc. is also seeking drill operators and blasters to work at the mining location. Explservice is a blasting company that will be providing blasting services to Troy Resources. Interested persons will leave their applications at 82 Premniranjan Place, Prashad Nagar, or submit same by email.
The applicants will also have to provide a recent police clearance and two recent character references.
In May, Troy Resources said that its upcoming mining project is expected to employ initially, 500 persons with some 300 having permanent work status. The company had at the time offloaded their US$5M, 3.3 megawatts grinding Ball Mill which is critical to operations at the Karouni project.
Natural Resource Minister Robert Persaud and Clinton Williams of GNIC among others were present at the time when the company highlighted the arrival of the machinery.
With an overall cost of about US$76M, Troy’s mining project is expected to last about eight years. The company’s CEO, Ken Nilsson at the time expressed satisfaction at the arrival of the first set of equipment and the “good welcome” that was received from the country.
Nilsson had noted that about $54M has already been spent in the initial stages of the project. Natural Resource Minister Robert Persaud said that the Project had been in the making for several years, but many challenges were experienced.
Early this month, Troy echoed a strong warning that it will not be offering bribes to expedite its affairs. While they did not go into detail as to the meaning of the statement, the mining company is currently upgrading the Linden to Omai Crossing and Omai to 72 Mile roads.
It was said to be awaiting the signing of a Minerals Agreement to start construction and to move into operational mode. (Zena Henry)
