A taxi driver reportedly busted with a quantity of marijuana on Thursday was remanded to prison by Magistrate Judy
Latchman the following day on a drug trafficking charge.
Phillip Lovell, 38, of East Ruimveldt, Georgetown, who appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court is alleged to have had 2.272 kilogrammes of marijuana in his possession for trafficking purposes on September 25 at Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara. He pleaded not guilty to the offence and submitted a bail application.
Lovell, who had no lawyer, said that he is married and has five children. He stated that he had never been charged before.
Police Prosecutor, Sergeant Vishnu Hunt did not present the Prosecution’s facts in Court, but did opposed bail. He said that Lovell failed to provide the Court with any special reason for bail to be granted.
Lovell was remanded to prison. The case will be called again on September 29 before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
