Smythfield Rockers demolish Black Sharks in semi-finals
After being dumped and then reinstated into the Legend Classic Basketball Inter Club competition for teams in Berbice, Smythfield Rockers of New Amsterdam made full use of the opportunity by beating up Fyrish Black Sharks 42-29 in their semi-final encounter which was placed last Sunday at the Area H Court in Rose Hall Town to secure a place in the final of the competition.
Their opponents will be old rivals New Amsterdam Warriors.
The game started with all things equal with the first segment being locked at 11 each. However the Rockers started to straighten things out in the second segment as they took a one point lead at half time with the score at 18-17.
By the third quarter the Rockers completely dominated proceedings as they held the Black Sharks at sea, for a 30-24 lead.
By the fourth segment the Rockers were all over the bruised, battered and injured Black Sharks as they closed out the 42-29 win.
The Rockers assault was led by Jason Fraser with 12 points with assistance coming from Mark Brown with 11 points. For the Black Sharks Linden Joseph scored 10 and Desi Douglas 8.
The final of the competition will be played today at the New Amsterdam Basketball Court beginning from 15:30hrs.
The tournament is being sponsored by Ponai’s Pharmacy, MPG Packaging, A. Ally and Sons, Nand Persaud Rice Mills and Digicel. Vibert Garrett is the organiser.
