A 25-year-old bandit suffered the embarrassment of being beaten, relieved of his gun and handed over to the police after attempting to rob a gold miner in the vicinity of the Stabroek Market around 19.00 hrs on Friday.
According to reports, the suspect, identified as Calvin Dover, was in the vicinity of Demico House when he saw Dave Rodrigues, a 37-year-old gold miner, drinking with a friend. At the time, Rodrigues had a large sum of cash in a bag, and Dover, allegedly armed with a loaded 9mm pistol, decided to take the miner’s money.
He reportedly pressed his gun to Rodrigues’ ribs and ordered him to hand over the bag.
Instead, Rodrigues inflicted a beating on his attacker, took away his gun, and marched him over to the Stabroek Market Police Outpost.
Last July, Dover was charged with being in possession of a firearm and ammunition.
