The question of whether Kevin Jeffrey could hold off the in-form Danny Persaud
and Ryan Rahaman will be answered today when the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMR&SC) host its ‘Race of Champions’ Meet, at the South Dakota Circuit.
A source from the fraternity told Kaieteur Sport that Jeffrey recently returned to Guyana and was expected to compete in the Group 4 category along with Rahaman, Persaud and Keith Evelyn which will make for an exciting duel amongst some of the fastest cars locally.
Jeffrey, who drives a Mitsubishi Evolution 8, undoubtedly has the quickest car in the category, but his machine was beset with mechanical problems during the first leg of the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC) in Barbados earlier this year so he could be vulnerable at this moment, especially since Persaud is coming off of an outstanding performance in the second leg of the CMRC which was held in Trinidad and Tobago.
However, fans are being cautioned that the battle for bragging rights does not rest alone on the rivalry between Jeffrey and Persaud because both Rahaman and Evelyn are known to be very competent drivers with fast machines as well and they too could be in the mix battling for the chequered flag.
The Group 2 division is another category that is sure to bring excitement to the fans with Shairaz Roshandin, Syed Hassan, Danny Persaud, Chet Singh, John Joseph and Suriname’s Oliver Tjin Liep Shie, all experienced drivers and accustomed to doing well at the South Dakota Circuit.
Just to add spice to the Group, Roshan Ali, Shane Seejattan, WR Reaz and Andre Dhanraj could very well come as spoilers in the same category.
The 125cc motorcycle division is another category that is shaping up to provide exhilarating action with young Matthew Vieira, the Boodhram brothers Hemanand and Heeranand along with the veterans Victor Pires, Terrence and Charlie Henery expressing their readiness to thrill the fans.
Twenty four races are carded for the day and fans who’re yet to make up their minds on whether to be at the track are being urged to do so with immediate effect or they could miss what is shaping up to be the best locally staged circuit racing of the year.
