Forty-three days after he allegedly shot and killed a carpenter during an attempted robbery in Kaneville, East Bank
Demerara (EBD), the 17-year-old suspect in the matter has managed to stay one step ahead of the law.
However, investigators are confident that they will find the teen, even if it means checking the homes of all of his relatives.
“We are going to find him, how long will he run and where will he go?” a police official said.
The suspect is wanted by police for allegedly killing 24-year-old Mark Drexel London at Second Field Kaneville, East Bank Demerara on August 14, last.
According to reports, London and a friend were walking on the street when the teen approached them and demanded that Drexel hand over his gold chain and cellular phone.
London refused to hand over his valuables and the two friends ran in different directions.
The suspect reportedly fired four shots behind London, one of which struck and killed him instantly.
The gunman escaped empty-handed.
“We want anyone with information to call us. He is young but he is dangerous. If he can shoot and kill someone for a chain then what else he wouldn’t do. If you see him in a bus, taxi or anywhere, call us,” the police official said.
Kaieteur News was told that the teen was spotted at various locations on the East Coast of Demerara but disappeared before the police arrived.
Police ranks believe the teen’s relatives are hiding him, but reminded that harbouring a fugitive is a criminal offence.
In 2010, the Guyana Police force listed several cases in which persons were charged for aiding and harbouring criminals.
In 2008, Omali Rogers of Woodpecker Lane, Amelia’s Ward, Linden, was charged with harbouring a wanted person and accessory after the fact.
He was placed on bail and after he did not appear in court, a ‘wanted bulletin’ was issued for him on April 22, 2009.
Also, on the list were Shimroy Lyght of Christiansburg, Linden and Loutel Simon of Goedverwagting Squatting Area, East Coast Demerara who were both charged separately with harbouring a wanted person and accessory after the fact in 2008.
The police are asking anyone with information on the whereabouts of Andrew Doris to call telephone numbers 227-1611, 227-1270, 227-1149, 2256941 or contact the nearest police station.
