– record number of entries received
Courts Guyana Inc. is ready to host its biggest 10km Road Race and 3km Health Run/Walk
with a record number of registrants entered into the fourth edition of the race, which starts at its Main Street store at 6:00am tomorrow morning, and finishes at the same location.
Courts confirmed yesterday that according to entries received from the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG), a record number of participants will compete in the race this year; according to Courts’ Public Relations Officer, Roberta Ferguson: “We are breaking records here”.
“We have our largest number of registrants thus far; registration has been great, and I think what we are hearing is that it may be the biggest 10km race in Guyana and people are still calling us to register, so our response has been great,” Ferguson continued.
She said that the start-line should be impressive, and while it is not known “if we could hope for any upsets”, the race suppose to be an exciting one. Ferguson said that they were forced to revise their logistics following the overwhelming response to participate.
“Plans are great, we spoke to them (AAG) today and we got such a great response that we were forced to look at our logistics again,” she informed, adding that all official, water stations, Police for the route and medical team are in place for the race.
Ferguson used the occasion to remind that they are celebrating 21 years in a grand way and sport is on the front burner. She said that for September alone, Courts has spent $5.6M in sport, which “shows our commitment to the development of sports in Guyana”; over $2M will be spent on the 10km Road Race tomorrow with $1.2M in prizes.
Meanwhile, Courts Media Officer, Trudy Abrahams, encouraged families, corporate entities and civil society to come out and participate in the 3km Health Run/Walk. She said that the aim is to promote a healthy lifestyle for all Guyanese.
“You don’t have to register for the 3km Health Run/Walk, just turn up. I believe families should take full advantage of this. Courts is about ‘Bringing Value Home’, so we’re encouraging people to add value to their lives,” Abrahams said yesterday.
The 10km race will start in front of Courts’ Main Street Office, proceed north to the Seawall Road, east along the Seawall Road and continue east along Rupert Craig Highway’s northern carriageway to turn at Church Road on the Rupert Craig Highway.
It will then proceed on the Rupert Craig Highway’s southern carriageway into Kitty Public Road; south on Vlissingen Road; west on Lamaha Street, south on the eastern carriageway into Main Street, before turning around at the Cenotaph to finish on the western carriageway of Main Street in front of Courts.
The 3km ‘Health Run’ will start outside of Courts on Main Street, proceed north to the Seawall, continue along the Seawall, turn right on to Camp Street, continue to Lamaha Street, turn left on Lamaha Street, proceed west to Main Street, turn left onto Main Street. The race will continue in the southern direction to the Bank of Guyana before turning right onto Main Street (western side) and finishing at Courts.
