Police are yet to make any headway with their investigations concerning the discovery of a headless decomposing body which was found on Monday by workers attached to the Ministry of Public Works. The body was discovered shortly after 16:00hrs as the workers were clearing a cemetery at Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara.
Police sources yesterday told Kaieteur News that a post mortem examination is expected to be done today at the Georgetown Hospital. The sources explained that no one has come forward with any information which could lead to the person’s identity.
Kaieteur News was further told that the police were presently going through several missing persons’ files and contacting relatives.
“We are going through the missing persons files and we are calling people to see if their relatives returned home” the source explained.
The source further asserted that from the preliminary investigations they could state that the person suffered a “gruesome” death.
It was determined that the badly decomposed body, which was hidden in a clump of bushes, was that of a man. A few yards away a human skull and a pair of blood-stained shoelaces were found in a black plastic bag. There was also some amount of “heavy duty” tape wrapped around the bag.
Several other bones which appeared to be human where scattered around the scene by dogs which had begun to devour the remains. Police sources have said that a plastic handcuff along with a car mat was found in the bushes close to the body.
Detectives who were summoned to the scene took a statement from at least one worker attached to the Ministry. Kaieteur News was told that the police had tried to get the Government pathologist to scene to do a post mortem but were unsuccessful in their attempts.
The remains were removed by Lyken Funeral Home.
