A 28-year-old mason, who left Guyana’s shores last Saturday but was reportedly arrested when he returned on Tuesday at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA), is being accused of having a fake machine readable passport, and presenting it to the police.
Stanley Bisnauth of Number 11 Village, Corentyne, East Berbice, was taken before Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, charged with conspiracy to commit a felony and uttering a false document.
It is alleged that between September 20, 2014 and September 23, 2014 at Georgetown, Bisnauth conspired with person or persons unknown to obtain a false Machine Readable Passport, numbered R0189283 for his own use, which purported to show that it was issued from the Central Immigration and Passport Office.
The 28-year-old is also accused of uttering the fake passport to Police Constable 21710 Timothy Williams at CJIA on Tuesday (September 23), with intend to defraud him.
Bisnauth pleaded not guilty to both charges and was subsequently placed on $160,000 bail following an application by his attorney, Renee Kissoon, who said that Bisnauth recently got married, has no children and added that he had never been charged before.
The lawyer remarked that it was strange that her client left the country on Saturday, but no problem had arisen with the authorities and his machine readable passport. She said it is when he returned that allegations of a fake passport surfaced.
In her bail petition, Kissoon promised that her client will in no way tamper with any of the witnesses and that he will return to court.
Her application was met with no objections from Police Prosecutor, Kerry Bostwick thus bail was granted in the sum of $80,000 on each charge. The case was adjourned and is set to be called on September 29 before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
