A gold-miner is currently nursing a severely wounded left arm at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), after he was brutally chopped by his step-father on Sunday.
Lambert Johnson, of ‘D’ Field Sophia, said that he had just bought an iPad from a friend around 23:00 hrs on Saturday, before taking his night’s rest.
Johnson, who said that he stored the iPad in a haversack beside his bed, found that the gadget was missing when he awoke around 06:00 hours on Sunday.
According to Johnson, since his step-father and mother reside in the upper flat of the two-storey residence, only the two of them could have had any knowledge of the item’s disappearance.
As a result, Johnson said he immediately started to “shout” and accuse his step-father of the theft. However, only his mother was at home during this period.
“After I didn’t see my iPad when I wake up, I start to shout and get on bad, because I done know is my step-father do it. I know my mother would not. I didn’t thief it; I buy it honestly from a friend and they now want to take it away from me,” he said.
He alleged that his mother then called his step-father while he was out running errands and told him that her son was blaming him for the iPad’s disappearance.
Johnson claims that his step-father hurried home on his motorcycle after he received the news.
The gold-miner said that he was standing on the parapet outside of his residence, when his stepfather arrived on the motorcycle, disembarked with a cutlass in hand, and started dealing several chops to his left arm.
“I didn’t even had a chance to say anything. I just see he come off the bike with a cutlass and start firing chop, telling me that I accusing he of thiefing,” Johnson recounted.
Johnson said that in the midst of being assaulted, he managed to evade his stepfather, and ran to a nearby resident to seek assistance.
Johnson said that he was rushed to GPHC in a taxi, with the assistance of public-spirited citizens.
The gold miner suffered five chops which severely wounded his left arm, which is broken.
