An unpleasant stench emanating from a house at the corner of James and Barr Streets, Albouystown, led to the discovery of the body of an elderly man in his apartment at around 19.00 hrs yesterday.
The victim, identified as Michael Rawlins, known as ‘Buttery’, and estimated to be in his sixties, was reportedly found on his bed.
Some residents said that they last saw Rawlins alive about two days ago and that he had appeared to be depressed, since he was due to be evicted.
The occupants of another apartment in the house had reportedly heard him groaning, but only checked the room after becoming aware of the unpleasant smell.
Kaieteur News understands that Rawlins did not pay a rent for his apartment, and Kaieteur News was told that he was due to be evicted yesterday, following a court order.
Police were still to remove the corpse up to press time.
