The Berbice Bridge Company (BBC) first division 50-Overs knock-out cricket competition continued over the past weekend with one first round match and two second round fixtures.
A brilliant innings of 96 from Devendra Thakoordeen spearheaded Port Mourant to victory over Police and a place in the semifinals. Police made 204 in 46.4 overs; Brentnol Woolford led with 73. Port Mourant had slipped to 27-2 before Thakoordeen took charge and featured in a 142 run third wicket stand with all-rounder Loyydel Lewis (41) to push the score to 169-3.
Things slipped again for Port Mourant who found themselves at 191-6 and then 201-9 before they squeezed home by one wicket.
Former Berbice leg-spinner Shawn Pereira took 4-26 from 8 overs (his 2nd consecutive 4 wicket haul) to help Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets restrict West Berbice to 154. In reply, Rose Hall Town slipped to 25-3 before Pereira and all-rounder Rajiv Ivan put on 53 for the 4th wicket to lay the foundation for the win.
Pereira then teamed up with Vidol Crandon to save the team again after they were 106-7, sealing their final four spot. Off-spinner Andel Doris grabbed 4-50. Universal Solutions Bermine had drawn the bye through to the semi-finals after defeating Young Warriors in the first round.
Meanwhile, the last first round match was played on Saturday with GUYTRACT Upper Corentyne hammering Bush Lot Rising Star by 10 wickets. Pacer Omesh Khemraj took the first four wickets for Upper Corentyne to leave Bush Lot at 7-4.
Fellow pacer Victor Pedro and Latchman Roopchand also contributed to rock the Bush Lot boys who found themselves tottering at 27-6 and eventually, 34 all out. Khemraj and Pedro picked up 4 wickets each. Upper Corentyne hit off the runs without losing a wicket in 3.2 overs.
Albion Community Centre will host GUYTRACT Upper Corentyne in their second round match on Saturday at Albion for the final semi-final spot while the semis are scheduled for Sunday; Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets hosts Universal Solutions Bermine at a venue to be identified, while Port Mourant will be at home to the Albion Community Centre.
