Dental technician kills girlfriend, surrenders
A 29 year-old dental technician stabbed his 23-year-old girlfriend to death in a fit of jealous rage in the couple’s Hague, West Coast Demerara home at around 10.00hrs yesterday.
Dead: Rajkumarie Persaud called “Ashtie”
The suspect, who turned himself over to the police, reportedly attacked his girlfriend, 23 year-old Rajkumarie Persaud called “Ashtie”, after accusing her of being unfaithful.
Kaieteur News understands that an aunt of Persaud’s heard screams and upon investigating, she saw her niece lying in a pool of blood. She was rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where she died before receiving medical attention.
The suspect managed to flee the scene to his employer’s house in Peters Hall, East Bank Demerara.
He was detained at Providence Station after being taken there by his employer. A source said that the suspect had indicated that he would have committed suicide but was persuaded to surrender.
Kaieteur News was told that the couple started dating just under a year ago after both suspect and victim had separated from their spouses.
This newspaper was told that for weeks now, the suspect known as “Amit” had complained to relatives that the two were “having problems”.
The woman’s stepfather, Swami Sookrum, told Kaieteur News that he had planned to counsel the couple yesterday after he returned from church. Sookrum said that he left his Hague, WCD home yesterday morning leaving the suspect in a hammock and the woman inside of her apartment.
Persaud had lived in the lower flat of a house she shared with her mother and stepfather.
“I left him (the suspect) there at the house…you know he came to beg her for another chance and I say that I would counsel them when I came back from church,” Sookrum told Kaieteur News.
Sookrum said that while he was out, he received a message that “Amit” had stabbed Persaud.
Back in July, a construction worker allegedly killed his wife of six years. Candy Rawlins was found dead in her Crane, WCD home. Police are still trying to locate the suspect, Vidol Anthony Rawlins.
The police had found the nude body of the woman and a confession letter signed by her husband next to her.
