The Hearts of Oak Masters Football Club together with the Guyana Teachers Union (GTU) is running off a developmental football programme for first formers at a number of Secondary schools in The New Amsterdam/Canje areas.
The programme which got started on Saturday 13th September is expected to run for the next three Saturdays, culminating on Saturday 11th October. The programme is being conducted from 09:30hrs and 12:00hrs at the All Saints Scot Church Ground. A one day tournament involving the participating schools will be held on Saturday 18th October at the said venue.
Each school is expected to send 30 students, 15 boys and 15 girls and at least one teacher to participate in the programme.
The participating schools are New Amsterdam Secondary, Berbice High School, Berbice Educational Institute Tutorial Academy Secondary, Vryman’s Erven Secondary and Canje Secondary.
According to coordinator Neil ‘Grizzly’ Humphrey – whilst the programme serves to introduce football to the schools, its main objective is to develop the players’ technique. (Samuel Whyte)
