Accompanied by an attorney, the Community Policing Group (CPG) member, who allegedly shot his nephew in the head Monday afternoon at Kamuni Backdam, West Bank Demerara (WBD), turned himself into police yesterday.
Police sources said that 45-year-old Jhang Dahaduir Ramdhanny of Vive La Force, WBD, surrendered to ranks at the Wales Police Station around 10:30 hrs.
Ramdhanny, who is a member of the Vive La Force CPG, allegedly shot his nephew, Vickram Ramdhanny, 31, after an argument escalated over a logging concession at Kamuni.
Kaieteur News understands that the two families are feuding over an access road that leads to their individual timber grants.
The 31-year-old of Canal Number Two, WBD, was shot around 17:30 hrs. He is said to be in a stable condition at the West Demerara Regional Hospital. His mother, Seeranie Ramdhanny said that the police called her yesterday and informed her that her husband should visit the Police Station with his firearm.
The mother related that she is scared that the police will take “sides” given the fact that the suspect is a member of the CPG.
Mrs. Ramdhanny had told Kaieteur News that she was informed that her husband and son were in the backdam on Monday clearing the road that leads to their timber grant. She added that she was also informed that the suspect approached her husband and son and an argument ensued.
Ramdhanny told this publication that the suspect, who was armed with a shotgun, pointed the weapon at her son and husband, who tried to flee. The woman said that the suspect opened fire, wounding her son in the head before fleeing the scene.
She added that her husband immediately rushed their son to the West Demerara Hospital where he is still a patient.
According to Mrs. Ramdhanny, her husband, who is also a licenced firearm holder, did not get a chance to reach for his weapon.
She explained that there are two roads leading to the suspects’ grant and her family’s land.
She said that the dispute started when the suspect damaged a road leading into his grant, and demanded to use theirs.
Mrs. Ramdhanny alleged that she has been going to the Guyana Forestry Commission (GFC) to get the matter rectified for the past four weeks. She recalled one instance where the GFC made an arrangement for the feuding parties to use different roads, but when she returned a few days later to sign the agreement, she was told that the GFC disregarded what they had initially told her.
She added that for some reason the officials at the GFC are now telling her that she should allow the suspect to use the road to her family’s wood grant.
“Dramatically they just changed everything…they told me to sign and I refused,” the woman had told Kaieteur News.
Ramdhanny said that she even went to the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment to seek help, but that was to no avail.
Christopher George, another relative, also said that he has an ongoing court matter with the suspect. George told Kaieteur News that his uncle also torments him and his family. He claimed that his uncle threatened to kill him and burn down his home earlier in the year. George related that he made numerous reports at the Wales Police Station, but to date no action has been taken against the suspect.
