Steve Bacchus amassed 23 points and carted off championship honours in the ‘B’ Class category when the Guyana Draughts Association (GDA) staged their Annual Draughts Championships at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue, last Sunday, 7th September.
Tyron David and Wilson amassed a similar amount of points but the former player clinched the second place slot after benefitting from the tie break system with Wilson closing off the podium places.
Bacchus will attempt to replicate this feat when the players return to contest the ‘A’ Class, hundred squares category this Sunday, September 21. This will not be as simple as it sounds since he will have to get past strong players, the likes of national champion, Jairam, Khemraj Pooranmall, Mark Braithwaite and Michael Francis, all class players.
Registration for this weekend’s tournament begins at 09:30hrs while the first draught would be moved half an hour later. Members are urged to arrive at the venue by the stipulated time as registration closes at 11:00hrs and late entries will not be accepted.
