Dr. Anand Goolsarran, President of the watchdog body, Transparency Institute Guyana Inc. (TIGI), Dr. Anand Goolsarran,
has resigned because of an overseas commitment.
According to TIGI, the resignation is with effect from September 1.
In the interim, George Fraser will take the role of Acting President until TIGI holds its next Annual General Meeting (AGM) in 2015.
Dr. Goolsarran was elected as President of TIGI in 2013, having previously served as Vice President.
“He has stated his intention of resuming his active movement with TIGI upon his return to Guyana in the future,” the body said yesterday.
Fraser returned to Guyana in 2012 after a career as a diplomat, businessman and private investor in the Asia-Pacific Region.
“He is an experienced Sinologist with more than three decades of exposure to China’s global profile in government and business. He is enthusiastic about TIGI’s work as a part of a global network that challenges corruption from international and local sources.”
His first hand experience of Hong Kong’s success in fighting corruption and China’s recently intensified efforts to halt this scourge has resulted in strong a conviction that similar successes can be achieved in Guyana, TIGI said.
The body said it is also welcoming the return of Nadia Sagar, TIGI’s first president, who has accepted a request to rejoin the Board of Directors. The board also has as members Calvin Bernard; Esther McIntosh; Dhanmattie Sohai; Gino Persaud; Compton Meerabux and Arif Bulkan.
TIGI has been vocal on a number of key issues including the Marriott Hotel.
