Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC)’s Chief Executive Officer, Michael Khan is
claiming that no doctor at the institution informed Colwyn Harding’s mother, Sharon, that one of his body parts had to be replaced.
Harding was rushed to the institution on Monday to seek medical attention after section of his intestine collapsed into the colostomy bag he uses to defecate.
His mother told some sections of the media that she removed her son from the hospital later that day and took him to a private doctor after doctors at the GPHC attempted to perform an operation without giving her the details.
The mother related that she was only informed that her son had to have one of his body parts removed, but she objected. She claimed that “something” was suspicious.
However, Khan, in an interview with this newspaper yesterday, expressed dissatisfaction with the mother’s claims. He said that Mrs. Harding’s statement is not factual.
“I am very upset that she would make those statements about the hard working people at this hospital,” GPHC’s CEO expressed.
An official at the hospital who asked for his name to be withheld said that this could be a move by the Hardings to get the public’s attention.
“They were in the spotlight for months, but now the news about Harding has diminished, so I am guessing this is their way of getting attention. My point is, since the last time they were here at GPHC, they made negative allegations, so why come again?” the official said.
He continued, “Whenever I hear about Colwyn Harding, I think about Kim Kardashian (an American television and social media personality). They are always doing something or the other to grab attention.”
Harding is the individual who filed a lawsuit against the Guyana Police Force seeking $100M in compensation. He claimed that he was sodomised with a baton by a policeman who was stationed at the Timehri Police Station and beaten by another.
The 23-year-old was hospitalised at the GPHC earlier this year and medical practitioners had diagnosed him with a strangulated inguinal scrotal hernia. An inguinal hernia is a bulge that occurs in the groin region.
According to medical practitioners at GPHC, it occurs because of a weakening of the muscles in the lower abdomen and “not because of rape.”
A severe beating to the abdomen can cause hernia.
On July 17, last, Harding appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry to face a violent robbery charge for allegedly mugging a woman, Cheryl Ann Hope, in front of a popular city store. According to the allegations, Harding made off $30,000 cash and three Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphones costing $360,000 from the woman in front of Ashmins on Hadfield Street, Georgetown.
He was placed on $75,000 bail.
