Thakur, Persaud slam centuries, Benjamin grabs 5
Wales A and Independence Sports Club recorded victories when the West Demerara 40-over cricket competition commenced on Sunday last.
At Wales Community Development Centre ground, Wales A defeated Wales B by a mammoth 272 runs. Batting first Wales A piled up an imposing 407-7 off their allocation of overs. Ramesh Thakur stroked 114; Chandrika Persaud slammed 100 and Ramdial Yankhana chipped in with 66. Azad Ali snared 4-53. Wales B were sent packing for 135 in 27.2 overs. Neil McLean made 26 and Floyd Bovell 22. Vishuu Sue grabbed 4-28 and Persaud 3-19.
At Joe Vieira Park, Independence SC posted 202 all out in 34.3 overs. Eon Samuels led with 56 while Devon Mohabir scored 30. Naresh Persaud claimed 2-24. Canal No. 2 SC were skittled for 88 in 30.3 overs. Paul Parsram scored 28; Roy Benjamin bagged 5-24 and Mahase Dhanpaul 4-16.
