Currently lying fourth in the Seaboard Marine 2014 /15 Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC), Group 2 driver Shairaz Roshandin (46 points) speaking with this newspaper yesterday at his TOTAL Lubricants Head Office in Eccles said that he will be using the upcoming local Race Meet scheduled for September 28 as a test run for the regional showdown in November.
Roshandin, who has performing creditably to date at the CMRC events in Barbados, before suffering a setback in the Trinidad and Tobago leg expressed optimism of doing well at the Meet which will be staged in less than two weeks time at the South Dakota Circuit.
The reigning Group 2 champion, who drives a Honda Civic said that while he has not received his machine back as yet following his participation in T&T hwre he suffered gearbox issues, he is confident that he will be ready in time to setup and test the machine ahead of the local event.
According to the local speedster, the Meet will see the introduction for the first time the new rules that was implemented to be used in the respective territories, making them general among the participating countries within the Caribbean Motor Racing Association (CMRA) configuration.
He pointed out that with the new rules, the door is now open for a lot more drivers to come in and this according to him makes the playing field a lot more level than before.
“It now opens the door for the Groups to be far more competitive and now you have to pay attention to everyone rather than a few that was the established norm as recent as lat year,” Roshandin stated.
Commenting on his misfortune in T&T, Roshandin said he was enjoying a handy lead, before the gearbox snapped and he just had to nurse the car until the race ended with him occupying the second spot.
Asked to identify a few competitors who could present stiff opposition to him, he mentioned the names of Chet Singh, John Joseph, Raj Singh and Andre D’ Andrade as those who on the day could pose a real threat.
Roshandin expressed thanks to his sponsors Rubis, M.S Roshandin Professional Services and Total Lubricants for their support over the years.
