– CPG member on the run
Police are hunting for a member of a community policing group who allegedly shot his nephew in the head, during an ongoing feud over a logging concession at Kamuni Back-dam, West Bank Demerara.
Vickram Ramdanny, 31, called “Steve”, of Canal Number Two, West Bank Demerara, was wounded at around 17.30 hrs during a confrontation with his uncle, who owns a licensed shotgun.
He is in a critical condition at the West Demerara Regional Hospital.
The victim’s mother, Seeranie Ramdanny, told Kaieteur News that the suspect is her brother-in-law. Kaieteur News was told that the two families are feuding over an access road leading into two separate timber grants.
The woman said that she was told that her husband and son were in the back-dam yesterday clearing their road that leads to their timber grant. She said that she understands that the suspect approached her husband and son and an argument ensued.
Ramdanny told this publication the suspect, who was armed with a shotgun, pointed the weapon at her son and husband, who tried to flee. The woman said that the suspect opened fire, wounding her son in the head.
She said her husband went to his son’s assistance and the wounded man was rushed to the West Demerara Hospital. Her husband, who is also a licensed firearm holder, did not get a chance to reach for his weapon.
According to the woman, there are two roads leading to the suspects’ grant and her family’s land. She said that the dispute started when the suspect damaged a road leading into his grant, and demanded to use theirs.
Mrs. Ramdanny alleged she has been going to the Guyana Forestry Commission to get the matter rectified for the past four weeks.
According to Ramdanny, she even went to the Ministry of Natural Resources to seek help. Ramdanny said that the GFC made an arrangement for the feuding parties to use different roads. She said that she was told to come days after to sign an agreement. However, upon her return the woman said that she was told that the GFC disregarded what they had initially told her.
She said that for some reason the officials at the GFC are now telling her that she should allow the suspect to use her road to her family’s wood grant.
“Dramatically they just changed everything…they told me to sign and I refused” the woman told Kaieteur News. The woman said that she returned to the GFC yesterday to lodge another complaint.
Christopher George, another brother, also said that he has an ongoing court matter with the suspect. George told Kaieteur News that his uncle also torments him and his family. He said that his uncle threatened to kill him and burn down his home. He said that happened earlier in the year.
George said that he continuously makes reports at the Wales Police Station, but no action is taken against the suspect.
The woman said that for years they have been complaining about the suspect but no one seems to take them seriously.
