The Kitty Post Office building located at Alexander and Pike Streets, Kitty is to undergo
reconstruction.
Earlier this year, Post Master General, Henry Dundas, had explained that a step by step procedure is in place for the commencement of the operation.
He said that the rebuilding of the Kitty Post Office is high on the corporation’s 2014 agenda; a pertinent aspect of the plan to improve the general operating standard of the mailing service.
According to a statement released by the Guyana Post Office Corporation (GPOC) yesterday, reconstruction of the post office is projected to conclude within three months.
GPOC Public Relations Officer, Telesha Whyte, said that Victor Graham and Associates have been contracted for the exercise. The estimated reconstruction programme has been set at $10,769,129.
Whyte said that the new building will offer secure and convenient services to all members of the public.
“The Kitty Post Office will be offering the usual pension, bill payment, express mail and postal services but in spanking new environment,” she added.
In the interim, Whyte explained that residents of Kitty and its environs are advised that services can be accessed at any other Post Office of their choice.
Customers have the option of transacting business either at the Campbellville, Charlestown, East La Penitence, Bourda, Post Office Training School (POTS) at Lamaha and Carmichael Streets, GPOC’s Headquarters or any other Post Office countrywide.
“Pensioners who customarily received their Guyana Transport and Harbour; Dependents Pension Fund; Ministry of Finance; Guyana Police Force and Guyana Defence Force pension and allotment payments at the Kitty Post Office are advised that same will be paid ONLY at the Guyana Post Office Corporation’s Headquarters, North Road, Robstown, Georgetown, effective September 2014,” the release stated.
