Purposeful batting led by Deandra Dottin coupled by steady bowling from Anisa Mohammed guided West Indies Women to a 65-run victory over New Zealand Women in the ICC Women’s Championship at Warner Park, St, Kitts yesterday, giving the host a 2-0 lead in the series.
Dottin curbing her natural instincts, cracked seven fours and one six in an unbeaten 82 from 99 balls, as the Windies Women posted 246 for five from their allocation of 50 overs, after they chose to bat in the second One-day International on another hard, easy-paced Warner Park pitch.
Stafanie Taylor supported with 50 from 41 balls that included three fours and two sixes, left-hander opener Kycia Knight made a chancy 48 and Shemaine Campbelle got 27. S. Bates claimed 2-40 while there was a wicket each for M. Nielsen, G. Guy and S. Curtis.
Mohammed then grabbed 4-32 from her allotment of 10 overs, putting the skids on the New Zealanders before they were bowled out for 181 in 45.3 overs.
Taylor and left-arm spinner Shanel Daley captured two wickets apiece in the face of defiant Sophie Devine, whose 89 from 93 balls was the top score for the White Ferns before she became the last of Mohammed scalps in the 44th over with 68 required. Bates made 38 at the top of the order, but only Nielsen with 17 managed double figures of the other batters.
The Caribbean side gained another valuable two points that will count towards their tally in the IWC.
Scores: WI 246-5 Deandra Dottin 82, Stafanie Taylor 50, Kycia Knight 48, Shemaine Campbelle 27; S. Bates 2-40; New Zealand 181 (45.3) Sophie Devine 89, Susie Bates 38; Anisa Mohammed 4-32.
