GRFU 10s to conclude this weekend
The Guyana Rugby Football Union has planned two days of excitement and endurance to mark the end of its 10s Tournament which will conclude on Sunday, at the National Park.
Action in the clash between the University of Guyana and the Guyana Defence Force.
The tournament which is being played among the four clubs Pepsi Hornets, Caribs, University of Guyana and the Guyana Defence Force over two rounds will resume today with a double header and finish tomorrow with the final pair of matches to determine the winner of a competition that has been deemed exciting from the start.
National captain Rayon Gonzales’ squad Pepsi Hornets would be going after their first title in 2014. Hornets have played unbeaten so far and are leading the points standing on twelve points so far in the tournament. Hornets would scrum off on Saturday with the Guyana Defence Force who are currently in second place on eight points. Then on Sunday they play UG Wolves who are also on eight points.
On the other hand Yamaha Caribs which is led by Theodore Henry would be gunning for their first win in the tournament when they face UG WOLVES on Saturday, then on Sunday they face GDF.
Caribs would be hard pressed too since they have lost major players Grantley Adams and Ryan Lewis to the Police Rugby team.Caribs are currently at the bottom of the table with two points.
Tomorrow’s round of matches could actually be a three way race as GDF will not be playing on Sunday thereby giving Caribs a walk over and 4 points.
The GRFU were written to and were advised that the GDF Rugby Club will be unable to take the field for the games scheduled for this weekend due to injuries, regimental duties and encampment for Joint Services Athletics.
Meanwhile, reults of last Saturday’s matches saw Guyana Defence Force (GDF) being trounced by University of Guyana 48-0, while Pepsi Hornets and Yamaha Caribs played to an exciting draw 24- 24.
Today’s fixtures are as follows: Hornets v GDF @ 15:00hrs and UG v Caribs, while tomorrow’s games should feature GDF vs Caribs and Hornets v UG.
