Courts Guyana Inc. will host the Fourth Edition of its 10km Road Race on September 28,
following the launch of the even yesterday at the furniture and appliance giant’s Main Street store.
It was disclosed that Courts will be spending over $1.7M to ensure the success of the event with $1.2M up for grabs in prizes.
The race, as usual, is set to attract a number of top athletes with Cleveland Forde set to defend the male title. In addition, Ainlim 10k female winner, Euleen Josiah-Tanner, is also expected to return from the United States for the race.
President of the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG), Aubrey Hutson said that they have written to the Guyana Police Force to ensure that the race route is protected and the race is safe.
“What we have also done is to ensure some of our marshals come out with red flags to alert the motorists on the road of the race, so we can almost guarantee full safety,” Hutson said.
“Courts has done it again, sticking to their motto, ‘Bringing Value Home’; we have been attracting persons outside of Guyana to be a part of this race and it’s nice to see Courts continuing with their effort in sport, as we have (this race) as an annual event on our calendar,” he continued.
Courts’ Marketing Manager, Pernell Cummings indicated that the Courts 10km Road Race has been growing and the company is hoping that the 2014 Edition will be the biggest and the best.
“We are looking forward to seeing Guyana’s best athletes perform, it’s about keeping Guyana fit as this month is our anniversary month,” Cummings noted. Courts is celebrating 21 years of existence in Guyana.
There will be a 3km fitness race for Courts’ staff while members of the corporate community are also invited to participate. The race will start and end in front of Courts Main Street, with registration closing on September 26. All athletes can register at the Guyana Olympic Association Headquarters, High Street, Kingston.
