Over 55 horses entered
The horserace meet organized by the Alness Turf Club has been pushed back by one week and is now set for Sunday September 28th at the club’s racetrack at Alness Village, Corentyne Berbice.
According to organiser Marcel Crawford Junior, the main reason is to give the horses and horse owners adequate time to have their animals fit and ready for racing following an hectic two months of racing.
According to Crawford he wants all to be on board as they strive diligently to get the sport back to where it once was. He is encouraging all in the fraternity to shake off all their differences and put horseracing first. He wants to achieve what his late father, Senior Council Marcel Crawford, tried all is life to accomplish. He assured that the facility, which was once classified as among the best in the country, will be up and ready for the occasion.
So far a number sponsors are on board led by Beverage Giants Banks DIH, Guyana Tourism Authority, Nand Persaud and Sons Group of Companies, Jumbo Jet Auto Sales and Stables, Mohammed ‘Nanko’ Shariff and Attorney at Law Ryan Crawford among others.
Close to $4.5M are up for grabs and a total of seven races are billed for the day’s card with attractive cash incentives and trophies at stake.
With this being the second meet billed for the entity in more than two years, horseracing fans are expected to come out in their numbers. So far over 55 of the country’s top horses have taken entry for the day’s meet.
The feature ‘A’ class and lower 1600M event for a first prize of $1M with a total purse of over $2M and trophy compliments of Banks DIH Limited in the main attraction. Guyana Top ‘A’ class horse Score’s Even is expected to be back on the track and will face up against the likes of Church House, Set For Fame, Dark and Lovely, Run Nana Run, California Strike, Bridal Stone Corner and Young Elite among others.
The other events on board are the -F and lower race which will see the horses galloping over 1200M for a winner’s pocket of $350,000and trophy. The G and lower event over 1400M with a first prize of $275,000 and trophy.
The ‘I and lower1200M even will see the animals racing for a first prize money of $200.000 and trophy.
The animals in the ‘J1’ class event will be competing for $170,000 winners money and trophy over 1000M. The race for animals classified J3 and lower will be for a winners money of $140,000 and trophy over 1100M. The K and lower event will fetch a winning prize of $90,000 and trophy over 1000M.
Outstanding individual performers including top Jockey, trainer and stable will be presented with accolades compliments of the Trophy Stall, Bourda Market and the organizers.
