…launches new connection to Haiti
The ‘Caribbean Airline’ Liat has upped its services to Guyana, with three additional flights from the Grantley Adams Airport in Barbados to Ogle International Airport (OIA); bringing its local service to 10 flights weekly. The company has also done major reconstruction of its regional service and has added Haiti as one of its newest destinations.
Flights to the French–speaking port have thus facilitated the increase of several flights to other regional destinations, while the company has created increased opportunities for connections to international destinations.
In a public notice, Liat said that effective October 30, it will operate three additional services per week to the OIA on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Effective December 5, it will launch services to Port au Prince in Haiti every Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. The new route will meet customer demand and provide connections for customers to travel within the Caribbean to and from this growing market.
“With the launch of this new route to Haiti, Dominica will receive eight additional flights per week, as well as a new direct service every Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday between Antigua and Dominica.”
Liat’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) David Evans expressed pleasure with the company’s ability to address customers’ concern of ahead planning. He said the company is “pleased to be able to restructure the schedule to bring the airline in line with all major carriers. By publishing a schedule twice a year, we are able to offer our customers greater consistency, enabling them to plan their flights further ahead.”
Additionally, as part of a major initiative to restructure its commercial activities to meet customer needs and to improve the performance of the airline, Liat announced that it is changing its schedule periods from the three seasonal schedules currently produced to a standard International Air Transport Association (IATA) schedule, which covers two seasons.
The new winter schedule will come into effect on October 26, and will run until March 28. By maintaining the schedule for a longer period, customers are allowed to plan further ahead since the routes and times of service will be known in advance.
The airline added that while it focuses on the regional market, attention has also been given to customers wishing to connect with international services to the United States, the United Kingdom and Europe. The schedule has been designed to allow customers to connect with other carriers, such as British Airways, Virgin and Air France. This enables Liat to establish a base to start building alliances with other carriers and to strengthen its presence in those markets.
The winter schedule will include the launch of an upcoming destination as well as enhanced services and increased frequencies on a number of its routes. A service between Barbados and St Vincent will be operating as point to point and will utilise an ATR 72 rather than an ATR 42, allowing for greater customer uplift between the two islands.
