Romallo Crawford of the Trojan Cycle Club took his turn, this time to dominate proceedings, as he out sprinted his competitors to take the top spot when the Corskeld Trackers Cycle Club of
Corriverton staged their first anniversary cycle race.
The 50mile event which was held last Sunday saw some 20 cyclists taking to the starting line.
The event, which got underway at approximately 09:35hrs, saw the riders journeying from infront of the M and V Ganga Online Shopping and General Store at Springlands Corriverton, before proceeding to the Hack’s Rice mill at Number 35 Village before turning back to finish at its place of origin.
When the riders were sent on their way a six man pack of Romallo Crawford, Andrea ‘Padlock’ Green, Jabon Crawford, Brian Harris of Trojan and Roopchand Kedarnauth and Bharesh Sahade of the host club were out early as they made their move to dominate.
However, it was soon the four riders of Trojan in Romallo and Juban Crawford, Green and Harris that had taken over and was having things their way. The rest of the journey was done in the same manner as four riders continued their battle. With less than a mile to go it was down to a two man race with Romello Crawford out sprinting Green to the line for the top two spots.
Juban Crawford then had a horrid time keeping off Harris as the two battled for the third spot. The three sprint point prizes were taken by the Crawford siblings and Harris with one apiece.
The juvenile event was won by Roopchand Kedernauth with Ryan Singh coming in second.
Kedernauth took the sprint point prize in that category.
Christine Matherson won the 30 miles event in the novices category ahead of David Sampson.
They rode from the starting point to the No 51 Police Station and back.
The Corskeld Trackers Cycle Club, which was formed just over a year ago, has over 27 members and is being touted as the largest in Berbice.
