Police are finally giving the public a view of the man that allegedly gunned down waitress Debra Blackman in Chinese Delicious Restaurant, D’Urban Street, last month.
After apparently reaching a dead end, the Guyana Police Force yesterday released surveillance camera images of the suspect.
One of the pictures shows the suspect, with gun in hand, standing by the counter. He is of African ancestry and is wearing a black cap with a red peak.
“The Guyana Police Force is seeking the assistance of members of the public in identifying the person in the attached images. He is a suspect in the murder of cashier Debra Blackman who was shot and killed on Saturday August 23, 2014, in a Chinese Restaurant on Durban Street, Georgetown,” a police release stated.
Anyone with information that may lead to his identification and possible location is asked to contact the police on telephone numbers 225-6411, 225-2227, 227-1149, 226-7065, 225-8196, 911, or the nearest police station. All information will be treated with strict confidence.
Kaieteur News had posted part of the surveillance camera footage on Facebook some two weeks ago, while urging viewers to contact the police if they recognized the suspect.
Police had arrested a man who bore a strong resemblance to the suspect, but subsequently released him. They had also questioned several other suspects.
Blackman, 48, of Critchlow Circle, Tucville, was shot dead while standing behind the counter of the Chinese Delicious Restaurant in D’urban Street, where she had worked for some eleven years. The killer and an accomplice reportedly arrived and left on a CG motorcycle. According to investigators, there is no indication that the suspects attempted to rob the restaurant.
Some of Blackman’s children, who viewed the recording of the attack, insist that they know of no reason why anyone would have wanted to kill their mother. One relative said that information they subsequently received indicated that their mother was the victim of a robbery.
