More than ten years after being housed in a cramped building in the Albion Sports Complex on the Corentyne, the Albion Front Nursery School is now housed in a spacious, learner- friendly building.
The $17M building, constructed in two phases by Memorex Construction Services, was opened on the first day of the school term and visited and inspected by Region Six Chairman, Mr. David Armogan.
He was accompanied by Head teacher of the school, Ms. Vanda Crandon. The building which can accommodate 150 students was completed a while ago, however, construction flaws were highlighted and modifications had to be made.
Armogan expressed his pleasure that the pupils and educators of the school can finally enjoy the new building.
“As you know, there were a lot of initial concerns about the errors made by the contractor however, I am happy that the community and administration of the school are now pleased with the rectifications that were made (by the contractor) and decided to allow the students and teachers to occupy the much needed facility,” Armogan said.
“It is not just about erecting a building ….it must be done with precision to suit the occupants; the Government is expending a lot of money to ensure that our students have access to quality education in a conducive environment and, we need to see our dollar being channeled in the right direction.” Ms. Crandon said, that she is quite happy to be at a permanent location with the support of the Parent/Teachers’ Association (PTA).
“We worked tirelessly for two weeks to arrange our classrooms for the new school term and we received assistance from the PTA”, she stated.
“The book and snack racks as well as a refrigerator were acquired through the efforts of the PTA which has been the driving force in us acquiring this facility,” the Head teacher said.
