Good Success and Maria’s Pleasure recorded victories when the Badri Prasad Memorial T20 tournament commenced on Sunday last on the island of Wakenaam.
At the Wakenaam Community Centre ground, Good Success overcame Sans Souci Jaguars by six wickets. The Jaguars batted first and scored 136-7 from their allotted overs. Zameer Zaman slammed three sixes in a top score of 35 while Satrohan Shiwnandan cracked 33 inclusive of two maximums and Rashaad Rasheed 19. Off spinner Nazeer Mohamed grabbed 2-19. Good Success replied with 141-4 in 19. 2overs. Mohamed hit an unbeaten 36 while Chandrika Ragnauth stroked 35 not out.
The pair came together after their team was reduced to 67-4 and featured in an unbroken fifth wicket partnership of 74.
Mohamed hit three fours and one six while Ragnauth cleared the boundary on three occasions. Siddiq Mohamed snared 2-20. Sans Souci Jaguars went down to Maria’s Pleasure by two wickets in their encounter at the said venue.
Jaguars were sent packing for 64 in 11.1 overs, batting first. Siddiq Mohamed scored 18 and Satnarine Sahadeo 16. Ryan Gordon grabbed 3-11, Bernard Lewis 3-18 and Kennard Lewis 2-18.
In response, Maria’s Pleasure encountered some nervous moments before they eventually won the match in 16 overs, ending on 65-8. Extras contributed 24; Sahadeo captured 3-15 and Moin Khan 2-11.
The other matches that were scheduled for Zeelandia were postponed due a waterlogged outfield. The competition will continue on Sunday with Sans Souci facing Noitgedacht from 09:00hrs and Zeelandia at 13:00hrs respectively at the community centre ground.
