Sports Coordinator of the event satisfied with preparations
Anil Roberts, coordinator of Sports for the Amerindian Heritage Month activities has expressed satisfaction with preparations for the sporting segment of the celebrations of Guyana’s Indigenous people which is fixed for the Everest ground on September 20-21.
Roberts, who hails from Rupertee Village North Rupununi Region 9, explained that because the two-day sports event, under the theme ‘Sports, Games and Family Fun Day, is slated for ‘way down in the month’ there was enough time to properly plan these activities.
Starting time each day would be 09:00hrs and games include Cricket, Football and Volleyball in addition to several novelty events like Archery, Arrow Making, Fire-lighting competition, Paiwari Drinking competition, Tug-a-War and Tuma Pot eating competition. Entrance fee is $300.
The second day of event will see the finals in both the Male and Female categories being played under floodlights.
“Heritage Month activates began close to 20 years ago and we have improved in every aspect of our lives as Indigenous people. Our only problem is that we don’t have enough sponsorship for our Sports events but Digicel has been on board in a major as our main sponsor” Roberts noted.
Twelve teams from Regions one, two, four, six, seven, eight and nine, will battle for supremacy with Central Rupununi the defending football champions.
