The Committee set up by the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMR&SC) to initiate plans to host the third leg of the Caribbean Motor Racing Association (CMRA) has begun its work to ensure that they meet the required standard for a successful Meet.
Recently, during a briefing to report on the six-man contingent that represented Guyana at the second leg of the Series at Wallerfield in Trinidad and Tobago, Chairman of the CMRA Ray Rahaman along with GMR&SC President John Carpenter gave a brief synopsis on some of the plans for the upcoming event scheduled to be held on November 16, at the South Dakota Circuit.
Rahaman speaking at the briefing said that the Committee will be targeting some 15-20,000 fans from all across the Diaspora and beyond so they’ve started an aggressive and comprehensive campaign that should guarantee a record attendance at the Meet which is anticipated to attract all the top drivers in the Caribbean and those that usually come in from North America.
The CMRA Chairman added that it is imperative that all the local representatives for Guyana take to the starting grid so that what obtained in Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago where the hosts were fully subscribed in every division is continued to allow Guyana to maximise its chances of winning the country title and possibly the individual crown as well.
“We must be able to go to Jamaica who will host the final leg with a handy lead and this could only be possible if we get all our competitors on the grid in an effort to secure valuable points.”
Rahaman disclosed that the Committee had reviewed past Meets that are held in November and while they’ve constantly improved the general feedback from the fans indicate that many were looking for more activities over a longer period.
“Many of the fans had asked us (Organisers) to insert a week of fun activities into the package so that they could have entertainment whilst waiting for race day,” Rahaman informed.
This week of activities he said will start the Wednesday before race day and last until Tuesday with Parc Rayne being the designated location for the Village. Carpenter for his part urged all lovers of the sport to come out and support the Guyanese competitors as they seek to win the Caribbean title.
Among those anticipated to be in attendance are representatives from the FIA, world governing body for motor sport and those from the sponsors as well. Meanwhile, Guyana’s Kristian Jeffrey leads the CMRA individual points standing with 85 points and he is followed by Danny Persaud who is 11 adrift, while another Guyanese Paul Vieira has 43.
In the Country standings, T&T leads on 314 followed by Barbados with 300, Guyana in third on 297 and Jamaica in the cellar on 151.
