A security guard is counting his lucky stars after two armed men gun-butted him during a daring robbery yesterday at the Guyana Post Office Corporation (GPOC)’s branch at the junction of Carmichael and Lamaha Streets in Georgetown.
The bandits carted off some $4M from the Post Office Training School building. The money was lodged at the facility for pension and other payments.
Dajendra Kishuhdial, 37, was treated at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation for an injury he sustained to his head. He was later sent away.
According to information received, the gunmen entered the Post Office around 09:10 hrs and held up the staffers and a few customers who were standing in the line, waiting to pay their bills and collect their pension. It is unclear whether any customers were robbed.
In a release, GPOC said that the facility will be temporarily closed to the public to facilitate an investigation.
Customers were advised to utilize the services at any other post office within their proximity.
On June 5, last, two gunmen carted off with some $1.5M from the Soesdyke Post Office. The duo, armed with handguns, stormed into the post office where they held up employees and escaped with the booty.
They sped away from the robbery scene in a heavily-tinted blue car, heading to the Soesdyke/ Linden Highway.
Similarly, on June 11, last, an armed bandit robbed the Campbellville Post Office of some $1.3M.
No one was arrested for either of those robberies.
