A sterling performance by the Guyana male three-hand team in the sixth and final round earned them first place when the World Council Dominoes Federation (WCDF) held its 16th championship from August 14-24 in the land of the ‘Flying Fish’, Barbados.
The balanced Guyanese team ended with 14 points followed by Antigua & Barbuda on 13.5 and host Barbados on 12. The team from the ‘Land of Many Waters’ went into the sixth and final round against the USA and Anguilla on 11 points trailing Antigua and Barbados.

Although the female team won their final round game, they had to settle for third position as they started their final round on 10 points, two behind eventual champions Antigua & Barbuda and three behind Barbados who edged the Guyanese on sixes to take the runner-up spot. Guyana tallied 86 games to beat Anguilla on 76 and Antigua 56.
The Guyanese grabbed three points from this encounter which brought them level with Barbados, but Antigua ended on 14 after gaining two points from the match. Guyana were knocked out in the semi final stages in the King and Queen segment, but placed third in the overall team championship.
