One person is now dead and three seriously injured following a gruesome accident involving a pickup and a pedestrian on the Alness Corentyne Public Road yesterday afternoon.
Dead is pedestrian Roy De Souza, 52, a labourer of Alness Village
According to information, three persons Vinesh Babulall 19, His brother Yudesh Babulall 17 of No 46 Village and a female whose name was given a Priya of Tain, Corentyne Berbice were in the pickup. The trio was reportedly returning from the No 63 Beach, and was heading to the female’s home when the accident occurred.
According to information, the pickup, GPP 8240, which was being driven by Vinesh Babulall was travelling at a fast rate when in the vicinity of Alness, it swerved to avoid colliding with a car that was heading out from a street.
The driver reportedly lost control and struck De Souza, who was reportedly dancing on the parapet. He reportedly died on the spot. The vehicle then turned over several times before jumping a 10-feet drain and slamming into a mango tree.
The occupants were rescued and taken for medical attention. Vinesh Babulall, who is reportedly in an unconscious state and Priya are patients at the Anamayah Memorial Hospital on the Corentyne, while Udesh Babulall has been admitted in the New Amsterdam Hospital.
Investigations are continuing.
