The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and Pepsi Hornets both closed off the first round of the Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) 10s’ Tournament with impressive victories on Saturday last, at the National Park.

Playing in the opening game of the scheduled double header, national player Christopher Singh went over the try-line thrice to lead Hornets to a come from behind win against the University of Guyana who succumbed 14-29.
The academics had taken the lead very early in the contest, before Hornets roared back through Singh to go to the break with the scores level at 14-14 and a full half to play which was duly dominated by the latter side.
In the days other game, sprinter Patrick King was simply exhilarating as he scorched down the field en route to scoring three tries as the Army beat cellar dwellers Yamaha Caribs 52-34. The soldiers were on the rampage very early in the game and enjoyed a handy 33-5 advantage, before Caribs attempted to make a fight of it, but just could not match the speed of King.
The final round of competition is set to commence on Saturday, at the same venue. Meanwhile, below is a look at the points standing:
