Paul De Nobrega rode brilliantly to capture the second Dash for Cash 40-Lap cycle race sponsored by United Bike Shop and held at the inner circuit of the National Park, yesterday.
De Nobrega clocked One Hour 28 Minutes and 07 Seconds to win the event just ahead of the experienced Robin Persaud, Mario King claimed third.
The 40-man race started off at grueling pace with Michael Anthony and Godfrey Pollydore taking the first set of primes. The riders kept up the tempo throughout the event. Marlon ‘Fishy’ Williams, Hamza Eastman, Alanzo Greaves and Enzo Matthews broke away from the bunch, but their lead was short lived as Robin Persaud, Alanzo Ambrose, Mark Harris and Warren Mc Kay led at different periods just before the half way point.
However, Greaves and Anthony guided their opponents for some time, but De Nobrega and Persaud overtook them on lap 23 and the pair never looked back, extending their lead by some distance.
The duo shared the remaining primes with De Nobrega taking the biggest which was contested during lap 36. It then came down to homestretch – Mario King stepped up his pace but was unable to catch De Nobrega and Persaud upfront.
De Nobrega and Persaud went for the kill in the final lap, but it was the former who crossed the finish line just ahead of his rival. King had to settle for third.
De Nobrega who carted off eight primes pocketed $41,000 while Persaud took home $17,000 including seven primes. King collected $5,000 inclusive of one prime. The other prime winners were Williams (five), Greaves (three) and Anthony (three), Mark Harris (one), Hamza Eastman (one), Montgomery Paris (one), Ambrose (one), Albert Philander (one) and Pollydore (one).
