– was seen walking naked on railway embankment Tuesday
When 45-year-old Sharon Forde of West Ruimveldt failed to return home last Monday her neighbour became worried and informed her brother Troy.
A search was launched but it was three days later after local media outfits published the story of the nude body of a woman washing up on the Kitty Foreshore, that anyone knew what tragic circumstances had befallen the mother of five. The body which was taken to the Lyken Funeral Parlour was positively identified by her brother, who had been caring for her after she developed mental problems.
Investigators have almost ruled out foul play since no visible signs of violence were seen on Forde’s body, when it was first examined on the Kitty foreshore where joggers had seen it before calling in the police. It is believed that the woman had taken off her clothes to bathe in the ocean and was swept away by the spring tide.
According to the police, her brother, who resides on the East Bank Demerara, claimed that she became mentally ill after her husband broke up with her. And because she was often seen walking the road aimlessly due to her condition, the brother had recently secured an apartment for her in the city and would check on her periodically. The woman was reportedly seen by a psychiatrist at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation earlier this month but was reportedly treated and sent away.
“He had been searching for her for three days,” the source told Kaieteur News.
When contacted last night, Troy Forde told this newspaper that he had maintained contact with his sister up to last weekend.
He said that last Tuesday he was in Berbice and when he came back he got word that his sister was seen walking naked along the railway embankment in the vicinity of the CARICOM Secretariat.
“I went all the way up the East Coast, as far as Buxton, to look for her, since I thought the person was referring to CARICOM Auto Sales, but I didn’t see her,” Troy Forde told this newspaper.
He said he and his father made further checks in the city even searching near the Kitty seawall, but to no avail.
Forde said when he heard news of a naked woman’s body found on the seawall on Wednesday, he immediately suspected that it was his sister. “Remember I heard that she was seen naked, so I suspect was she,” he said.
“I never expect something like this because she never went off by the seawall, even though she would go away for days sometimes. People would normally carry her home whenever they see her, but she always walk out,” Forde added. He stated that early yesterday he went to the parlour and was able to confirm his fears.
