Up and coming Berbice cyclist Juban Crawford of the Trojan Cycle Club continued his good form in the cycling front as he rode away with the latest race in Berbice when he won the 40-miler organized by cycling coach Randolph Roberts and the Flying Ace Cycle club.
The event, which was held on Sunday, saw Crawford riding most of the last part of the event alone to win with ease.
The race, which began at Marks Bridge in New Amsterdam, proceeded to Adventure Village before returning to New Amsterdam to finish at Main and Alexander Streets. Crawford was among the leading pack of four which included Sean Israel, Dennis Charles and Syborne Fernandez that broke away early, but Crawford was bent on dominance as he took the first sprint point prize. Crawford continued from there and never looked back.
The other cyclists including Audrel Ross, Sammy Mootoo, Troy Gibbons Brian Harris, Kurt LaRose, Andrea Green and Ray Millington among the others were lagging somewhere behind.
Crawford continued to press on with the wailing sirens, the hot sunshine and the whistling breeze as his company until he blazed across the finish line.
Sometime after, Israel came in second with Fernandez third and Harris fourth. Charles sprinted in ahead of Gibbons to sort out the fifth and sixth places.
Marica Dick was all alone as he took the female crown, while David Sampson was also a loner in the Juvenile category.
Crawford for his exploits pocketed all four sprint point prizes.
The event was sponsored by ART Sawmilling Enterprise, Home line Furnishing, Triple ‘S’ Taxi, Arokium Funeral Home and Acting B Division Police Commander, Senior Superintendent Marlon Chapman.
According to Roberts, another similar event is slated for the next two weeks. Roberts was however dissatisfied with the lack of competitiveness by the riders. (Samuel Whyte)
