As plans for the Diamond Jubilee Celebration of the Berbice Cricket Board move ahead, Republic Bank (Guy) Ltd. handed over a sponsorship cheque for $135,000 towards the Diamond Jubilee Essay competition which is opened to youths between the ages of 14 to 25.
Chairman of the BCB Special Events Committee Hilbert Foster has described the bank as a true friend of Berbice cricket, noting that all plans are in place for a successful month of activities while also disclosing that several special guests have stated that they would be returning home for the launching on August 31.
President (ag) of the BCB Anil Beharry expressed gratitude to Republic Bank for their continued investment and stated that the month of celebration for the historic anniversary would be memorable. The BCB, Beharry said strongly believes in recognizing its heroes and several of them would be honoured during the month.
Manager of Republic Bank New Amsterdam Branch, Mr. Randolph Sears expressed the bank’s delight at being associated with the BCB Golden Jubilee celebrations. He stated that the BCB was well respected for outstanding management and for getting things done.
The bank, Sears stated, has invested heavily in education, culture and sports as part of its corporate responsibility over the past years.
Meanwhile, the topic for the essay competition is “BCB – 75 years of progress. Why I am proud to be a Berbice Cricket Fan” and the essay must be between 500 – 700 words. The winning essay would receive $50,000 and a trophy, first runner-up – $30,000 and the second runner-up $20,000.
The deadline date for submission of essay’s has been extended to September 10 and the drop off locations are the BCB Office, Dr. Cheddi Jagan Street, New Amsterdam, DTV – 8 office at Main Street, New Amsterdam or the RHTYSC office, Area ‘H’ Ground.
