The Little Diamond International Martial Arts Academy (LDIMAA) Shin-Kai-Ryu Guyana held a successful international tournament which took place at the Enmore Community Centre on August 23 – 24, 2014.
Also participating at the successful event was the Shuriken Karate School of Nickerie, Suriname as well as two schools.
LDIMAA with 31 students won 32 gold medals, 13 silver, 9 bronze as well as 3 Grand Champion trophies.
Enmore Secondary with 17 students copped 13 gold medals, 7 silver, 7 bronze and one Grand Champion.
Parfaite Harmony School with six students won 6 gold medals and 1 silver. Wales Primary School featuring eight students collected 10 gold medals, 5 silver, 2 bronze and 2 Grand Champions.
Christian Freeman of Wales was crowned Grand Champion in the 6 – 12 years division; VikashSomwaru of Enmore was named Grand Champion in the 13 – 19 years division; Parsuram Arjune of Wales copped the Most Outstanding Student of the tournament, winning 4 gold and 1 silver apart from being crowned Grand Champion in the 20 – 25 years and over division.
The Shuriken Karate School of Suriname with a total of 9 students won 9 gold medals, 9 silver and also received the 2nd place Team Trophy. They also produced one Grand Champion – Kajaal Phalai.
A special award was presented to Instructor, Shihan Khedoe for his service to Martial Arts over the years. The LDIMAA won the Team Championship Trophy after losing it for 3 years.
Two individuals were awarded Honorary 5th Dan Black Belt and Life Member Certificates of the LDIMAA; Mr. Neil Kumar of the National Sport Commission who was not present and Mr. Pierre Nathoo.
The LDIMAA is expressing gratitude to all its sponsors, Ministry of Culture Youth & Sport, National Sports Commission, Red Cherry, MACORP, Lens Craft Optical and Shihan Abdool Nazim Yassim for making the tournament a success. Special thanks were extended to the Judges and Referees.
Shihan Nazim Yassim and his team will now turn attention to a competition that will be held in Suriname on September 6, 2014.
