East Canje Knights showed their worth as they surged forward to demolish Rose Hall Town Jammers in a Group ‘A’ clash in the latest game of the Legend Classic Basketball competition which was played last Sunday at the Area ‘H’ Ground in Rose Hall Town.
The Knights, who were sharper and quicker than their challengers, went on to demolish their depleted opponents 60-41 points.
Knights held the momentum from the tip off as they finished the first segment 19-9. The Jammers had their best run in the second session when they scored 20 points to be behind at 29-39 at the half way stage.
The Jammers although being outplayed by the Knights continued to fight but the third segment ended with the Knights in the ascendency at 41-35.
Steve Roopnarine with 15 points led the Knights. He received good support form Kevon Emanuel with 14 points and Travis Sutton 12.
Bobby Tusher led the way for the Jammers with 15 points. Support was received from Michael King with14 points and Kevon Wiggins 10.
The competition continues on Sunday with a top of the table clash between New Amsterdam Warriors and Smithfield Rockers at the New Amsterdam Court. The game will see the winner topping the table in Group B.
In an earlier match, New Amsterdam Warriors made sure their trip across the Berbice River was not in vain as they softened Ithaca Hardliners, thrashing them 82-48 also last Sunday at the Ithaca Basketball Court, West Bank Berbice.
The Warriors, who were prepared and ready for battle, declared war from the onset as they raced away to a 19-2 lead by the end of the first quarter.
The New Amsterdam Warriors continued their run in the second segment pouring in another 19 points to take the half time break at 38-14. The pattern was much the same in the third quarter which ended with 55-24 lead for the rampaging Warriors. The Hardliners somehow made things hard for themselves as they never got going until the last quarter when they scored 24 points to double their score to end the game at 82-48.
Warriors were led by a game high 24 from Randy Richardson with Theophilus Bess supporting with 19, Randy Caesar 14 and Leon Payne 11 leading the way.
The Hardliners were led by Mark David with, 13 while Robert Edwards assisted with 10.
The competition is being sponsored by Ponai’s Pharmacy, A. Ally and Sons and Nand Persaud and Group of companies. The coordinator is Vibert Garrett. (Samuel Whyte)
