Dear Editor
The PPP’s ministers were counting their money again last week-end. “25 million US,” one said. “48 million US,” said another. “Five hundred and forty-million US. And I’m supposed to receive another seven hundred thousand by tomorrow,” said another. And so it went.
They got around to talking about Khemraj and what a nuisance he was becoming, raising up the Integrity Commission again. One cursed him and regretted that he was allowed to join the PPP. Another became hasty, and added that the President had said the Integrity Bill would not pass while he was President. The Public Procurement Commission Bill was already at Haag Bosch.
A few weren’t so confident and began to worry. One Minister said that at least he had his money in US dollars, and all his titles to his properties abroad was in a safe deposit box in Trinidad. His friend told him not to be stupid, that the Commission would require declaration of assets held abroad also. He sighed, saying he didn’t like the idea of lying to the Commission, and cursed Khemraj again.
They talked about pulling out of the country, and asked what happened to the Finance Minister. One said he didn’t know, that he hadn’t heard from him in some time. He said that the Minister had said that his lawyer had told him it was not a good idea to go back into Parliament until the government changed, and then he would work for the opposition.
The other Ministers laughed and asked for the name of his lawyer.
