Opener Chanderpaul Hemraj hammered an unbeaten century as the visiting New York Blasters defeated host Everest Cricket Club by 32 runs in a T20 fixture Friday.
Hemraj stroked nine fours and five sixes in his top score of 102 and shared in a second wicket stand of 130 with fellow Everest team mate Amir Khan after the visitors elected to bat. Hemraj dumped off spinner Ravindranauth Seeram for two fours and a six before smashing Johnny Azeez for maximums. He then took boundaries off Troy Gonsalves and Ronald Jai Singh and brought up his century with a boundary off Rakesh Gangaram.
Khan did not go unnoticed; he hit Azeez for fours and deposited Singh for maximums, accounting for three fours and five sixes in scoring 53 (3×4,5×6). Shaheed Mohamed claimed 2-22.
The host lost the early wicket of Basil Persaud, run out without scoring in the first over, but Sahadeo Hardaiow and Hemraj Garbarran kept them in the hunt with a second wicket stand of 59. Hardaiow smashed former Guyana U-19 pacer Eon Katchay for a straight six before cutting him to the point boundary. Garbarran thumped Dereck Mc Donald for boundaries before Hardaiow was dismissed for 42 (4×4,1×6). Garbarran a former West Indies U-19 player was then caught in an attempt to step up the scoring rate for 33 (4×4) leaving the score at 97-3.
Consistent bowling by the visitors kept the home team below the asking rate despite a late blitz by Seeram who lashed two fours and five sixes in a top score of 49. Merv Seeram captured 2-30. Hemraj was given the man of the match and most valuable player awards, while Mohamed received the best bowler accolade. Blasters collected a trophy with the compliments of Shew’s General Store.
The visitors also presented one bat each to Hemraj, Khan and Sharaz Ramcharran who represented the Blasters, a quantity of gears and a trophy to the host who are celebrating their 100th anniversary. Each member of the Everest Masters were given medals.
Captain of New York Blasters Hafeez Khan expressed gratitude to Everest for hosting them and urged the young cricketers to take the game seriously. President of Everest CC, Stephen Lewis, who in presenting copies of their centenary Magazine to the visitors expressed gratitude for their visit.
