The event attracted many children and parents, who were elated to receive a variety of school supplies.
Marketing and Public Relations Officer of Giftland Officemax, Christel Vansluytman, said that the initiative has been ongoing over the past five years, to assist parents within the depressed community in sending their children to school.
She said that due to the struggle and standard of living within Tiger Bay, Giftland Officemax has stepped in to provide “back to school” equipment, which includes stationery, haversacks and lunch-kits.
She noted that this year’s “back to school charity” valued over $200, 000.
Community leader and representative, Trescelin Rossan said that Tiger Bay consists of 136 families, including at least 180 children.
Rossan said that most parents look forward to the annual distribution of school supplies, as it allows them to use their earnings for other domestic purposes.
She expressed gratitude on behalf of Tiger Bay, for the annual charity that Giftland Officemax distributes to the community.
