CP Got Even of The Elcock/Poonai Stable showed who is boss when it bettered the field to win the feature C1 and lower event and took away the hefty $4M purse and the huge Guyana Cup trophy, compliments of Banks DIH Limited and the Jumbo Jet family as the curtains came down on the 8th annual Guyana Cup Horserace extravaganza held yesterday at the Port Mourant Turf Club, Corentyne Berbice.
Trained by Colin Elcock and ridden by Paul Delph the animal, and one to watch, obliged when it mattered most for only its second win on Guyana soil and most telling.
The 1800M event was the most lucrative race in Guyana’s horserace history and the top notch field which assembled all had an outside chance of winning the event.
As the event got underway it was a ding dong battle with the field wide open and the lead changing constantly. However, as they hit the homestretch, it was then CP Got Even took off like a Rolls Royce with the experienced Delph spurring her to ease past the rest of the field to win by about two lengths from Treacle, Princess She Is Not, with two times defending Champion Elle’s Vision beaten into fourth.
The other winners on the day were in race one for J1 and Lower horses Affinity. Race two for G1 and lower animals saw a win for Damascus Dream. The third race for the day for 2 Year-Old Guyana Bred horses was won by Devil Woman. I Will Get Another got another win as it claimed the I and lower event.
Right To Rule had all right to rule the roost as it took charge of the E and lower event.
Storm Bird of The Inshan Bacchus stable continued its dominance whipping the field to take the 2 Year-Old West Indian Bred race.
The Inshan Bacchus Stable was crowned champion stable as Unsettled dished out a beating on its opponents to take the three year old derby.
The champion jockey was Randolph Richmond with two wins, while the Bacchus Stables lifted the stable owner’s trophy in the $25M event.
His Excellency President Donald Ramotar made a surprise visit to the venue. Full details in tomorrow’s edition. (Samuel Whyte)
